The original temple was built in the 15th century.
During the 2nd Venetian occupation, around 1700, the temple took its present form. A three-aisled basilica.
The frescoes, its wood-carved iconostasis and the pulpit are impressive.
The patron saint of Agios Anastasios is celebrated in Panagia on 1 February each year.
Outside the church lies the centuries-old olive tree
where St. Anastasios martyred in 1655.
This historic olive tree has been included in the list of 51 listed natural monuments in the country.
