The original church was built in the 15th century. During the 2nd Venetian rule, around 1700, the church took its current form. A three-aisled basilica.
Its frescoes, wood-carved iconostasis and pulpit are impressive.
The patron saint of the city, Agios Anastasios, is honored in Panagia on February 1 every year. Outside the church is the century-old olive tree
where Saint Anastasios was martyred in 1655. This historic olive tree has been included in the list of 51 preserved natural monuments of the country.
